| Ski Visions Edge Bevel Tool with mill files |
Item #SVN-SS: $54.95 | |
| This is a precision beveling tool for skis and snowboards that independently sharpens and bevels the side and bottom surface of one steel edge simultaneously. It includes two mill file inserts for filing and beveling, a file cleaning brush and instructions. Adjustable from 0 to 3 degrees in 1/4 degree increments. Optional inserts- a wide variety of deburring and polishing stones...use the coarse 180-grit ruby stones to initially treat rock-damaged edges and sharpen edges. Use the 350-grit ruby stones to deburr edges after filing or beveling, followed by the gummi stones. The ceramic stone inserts are used for final honing and polishing the edges. This progression can provide greater edge smoothness, sharpness and durability...plus conditions the edges so files can work with less effort. At an absolute minimum, we recommend using the 350-grit stone (especially along tips and tails) for daily touch-ups. Also available are optional carbide steel skyver blades for rapidly 'roughing in' side edge bevels and gummi stones for removing rust and final polishing. The stones can be redressed with the optional 100 grit diamond stone for longevity- always redress under running water! Ski Sharp tool includes the Skivisions tuning stick. | Ski Visions Tuning Stick |
Item #SVN-TS :$4.95 | |
|
Checking the sharpness
of steel edges has long been a bit of a guessing game for most tuners. Shaving
the face of your fingernail, or dragging the side of a pinkie finger across
an edge doesn't provide consistently reliable or accurate feedback...unless
maybe you're an ultra-experienced World Cup level technician. This tuning stick helps resolve that. It's made of a special hard plastic that subtly communicates how sharp or dull your edges are. You hold it at a 45-degree angle to the edge and, bearing down with moderate pressure, simply slide and try to shave some stick material away. If the edge is sharp, you'll feel and hear a noticeable resistance and sound. If the edge is dull, the stick will not shave...but slide without much resistance or sound. When you first get a tuning stick, try it on some edges you've ridden for a day or two. You'll be surprised how much duller they usually feel underfoot (due to greater wear from skier/rider weight and pressure) than at the tips and tails. Try it again after tuning and see the difference...it will be noticeable if you've tuned effectively. If you impart a sharper bevel angle underfoot than at the tips and tails, the stick will also detect this. Likewise, you'll also be able to hear and feel the difference between burred edges and deburred/polished edges. The SkiVisions tuning stick is such a simple yet revealing tool that can give you invaluable tuning feedback. | ||

side wall planers It's often frustrating and difficult to bevel the side edges on skis and snowboards because overhanging plastic sidewall material gets in the way to impede cutting action and quickly clog up file teeth. Removing this plastic material makes beveling and filing much easier. It can be done if you're ultra careful using a hand-held file, but this is tricky stuff for most mere mortals since it's also real easy to slip up and damage your steel edge in the process. The safest and fastest way is to use a sidewall planer. These tools utilize a sharp carbide steel blade to shave away as much (or little) of the plastic sidewall material as you want at a precise depth from tip to tail. |
