Ski Visions Ski Sharp Edge Tuning Tool

I have three of these. My first tool the plastic broke under the foot that slides on the ski base. The second one I dropped on the floor and it shattered a chunk of plastic out of it essentially making it a functionless piece of equipment better suited for a door stop and the final one I am using now. As for my opinion I think buying three of them explains something. They work good for the average tuner. I have all the stones and accessories for these units so I had to get another one just to keep using the stones. I have found an FK tool although taking longer because I can only do one edge at a time makes a fantastic edge and I dare someone to break mine. The tool is just more rugged. I still use ski visions products regularly because they do work

I was in the market for a new edger tool and was impressed with the Ski Visions Ski Edge Tuning Tool. I do all my own tuning and occasionally for other instructors. I have used this several times before detailing my comments here. PROS - The tool is easy to use with accurate dials to easily set the edge angles. Use light pressure with multiple passes for better results. I also purchased the green and pink stones to complement the package and use them progressively from Steel file to Green honing to Pink Ceramic to get nice polished edges. The inserts are easy to change and the angle is not affected as is can be by changing between physical tools. CONS - I find that the inserts would knock against my vice (center mount) with each pass requiring the vice to be clamped at the riser or toe piece of the binding and the ski to be mounted a bit higher that usual. Also the retention screws lack a 'pad' of some kind to lessen damage to the stones as there is an audible grind when securing the stones into the tool. The stones need to be dressed frequently or at least rotated to avoid ware or soiling after multiple passes. I would recommend hand filing badly damaged edges before finishing with this tool so stones last longer. Overall this is a convenient tool that is compact, easy to use and very portable.

that says it all ! this great tool minimized the work and simplifies the edge "engineering" to the point that ski tuning has become enjoyable. AND it is small and portable, yes i take it with me, even in the back-country...

This is my third Ski vision edging tool. For a few years I was tuning about 30 to 50 pair of skis a month, and this tool holds up very well. You have to pay attention to your technique, but the tool works very well and is accurate. I would recommend the tool if you intend to tune your own skis and perhaps a couple of your friends. The most important note to make is to make sure you get rid of the rock chips before using your files, and make sure to clean up the finished product with at least the stones. You cannot go wrong with this tool.

The only hitch was to get factory bevel angles for base and side which Hart provided with only one call. Easy, accurate and the videos are a hoot. So satisfied with it that other Ski Visions are on my list.

This is a good quality product, easy to use and effective. So far, it is easier and more accurate than my collection of file and diamond stones and guides.

This tool is great for maintaing edges that are in good shape to begin with- but it’s not great if you are trying to sharpen skis that have been abused or which have very dull edges.

I started using the Ski Visions Edge tuning tool when I was patrolling full time and paid our lease on the summit by tuning skis for the patrol, instructors, staff coaches and junior race crew. It held up well over the seasons (at least 4,000 plus pair of skis have been run through this tool). I am replacing it now because a friend wants to pick the old one up for his two pair of skis and I will purchase another set and continue to do 50 plus pairs a season. All in all, this is a wonderful tool, easy to use (though it does take a fair amount of "paying attention to technique"), accurate (though, again, you need to check your settings periodically), and functional for full-on tunes and touch-ups. would certainly recommend this tool for any setting.

I have been teaching for several years, all the other instructors tune their own skis, so decided time to do mine. I looked at all the tools and this looked the easiest. This tool is really easy to use. I really like both the green stones and the tuning stick, I think I am really knowing what I am doing when I use them. I can feel the difference in my skiing and I am getting favorable comments on my improvement.
