Swix Bio race waxes are easy to use and good value. A simplified system of three broad temperature range waxes (Yellow, Red and Blue) reduces the angst around wax selection...waxing should be fun! These waxes are a great choice for ski racing families, covens of snowboarders and obsessive waxers. Some folks like to mix the waxes, ie. 50% Blue with 50% Red, to create their own blends.

Some Wax Basics:

You might wonder what the need for different color waxes is...wouldn't a universal wax, one wax to rule them all be good enough? Universal waxes are great, as long as it isn't too cold or too warm, they tend not to perform as well at the extremes. Universal waxes essentially blend the properties of a warm wax, a medium temp wax and a cold wax in one bar, trying to cover all the bases, which they do ok, mostly. On the other hand, a cold wax (Blue) will be significantly harder and more durable, able to hold up to abusive, icy conditions or resist spiky new snow crystals. A warm wax (Yellow) is quite soft and has properties that make it more slippery in wetter conditions.
